A vacation destination and popular seaside resort, Carlsbad in San Diego County, California has had to struggle with making itself more pedestrian friendly to reduce car accidents. Car collision statistics compiled by the California Highway Patrol's Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS) revealed that in 2006, 21 pedestrians were injured in car accidents in Carlsbad.
